Endurance E3120 turbine, 24m tower, restricted output to 50kW

Philip and Morag Baxter live at Old Deer near Peterhead and run an architectural and building consultancy business which they established almost 10 years ago.

The Baxters purchased land from a local farmer, who had been a client of their architectural business, with the intention of erecting a wind turbine to generate a second source of income. In addition, they wished to offset their electricity bills in their office and further reduce their carbon footprint, having already replaced their oil central heating boiler with a wood burning boiler at home.

Having obtained the necessary approvals they are now the proud owners of a 50KW Endurance E3120.

Obviously, to move from the point of initial intention to being owners of a full functioning turbine requires much hard work, both on the part of the landowner and the turbine supplier and installer.

Prior to first meeting the Scaled Energy team at Turriff Show, Mr Baxter had already undertaken a great deal of research into which wind turbine best suited his needs and had identified the availability of feed in tariffs. With Mr Baxter having settled upon the Endurance, Scaled Energy were pleased to confirm that his decision had indeed been the best one to suit both his site and his energy generation expectations. With an Endurance in stock ready and waiting, Scaled Energy wasted no time in commencing the installation and having now reached the end of the process and generating income, Mr Baxter has no regrets:

“Although I had done a great deal of research into which was the most suitable turbine, it is still reassuring to know, now that everything is up and running, that my decision was the right one."

“The Scaled Energy team provided, and continue to provide, consistent advice, reassuring me that my choice of turbine was correct and that the site was suitable."

“The process of applying for planning permission, hydro connection and finding the right turbine is a long process fraught with challenges."

“Therefore, my advice to anyone wishing to erect a turbine would be to get the right people involved who know what they are doing and are therefore in a position to guide you accordingly."

“I liked the Scaled Energy team in particular (having spoken to several wind turbine suppliers/installers) because as they are a relatively small company, we were dealing with the people at the top and therefore there was no waiting around for answers. Zeno Kerr from the team is really at the top of his game and it is very reassuring that you are dealing with someone who knows what they are doing when you are committing to a large financial investment like a wind turbine. I also liked that they were fairly local to our area and within a relatively easy commute distance should there be problems. There are always issues with any construction project, as I know well from my line of work, but aside from a few small hiccups, things have gone very smoothly. The level of service from Scaled Energy has certainly been second to none."

“I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Scaled Energy to others and in fact, I have already done so.”

This turbine was commissioned on the 27th April 2012. Scaled Energy are grateful to have been asked to help Baxter Designs overcome the significant challenges this project presented and proud to have supplied and installed this outstanding Endurance wind turbine at this showcase site.
